A New Start for Spring 2009

March 28th, 2009

Finally finished rebuilding my website today!  Now It’s my blog’s turn.

During a resession, while it’s hard to develop new business, looking for ways of reducing costs is a big help.  So I found a new hosting plan and a new e-commerce solution, which only costs 1/7 of my old plan.

I feel like a computer geek these days, trying to get familiar with new softwares, learning some html, moving around database… But I don’t think I’m geeky enough about Information Technology.  When I backed up the database of my old blog, I didn’t notice that all the Chinese characters became error codes, so when I restored the database to my new blog, all my writings in Chinese cannot be displayed, which also caused my new blog to be “anti-Chinese”.

Alas! I think I have to re-upload my blog bit by bit.  Unless some real computer geek could help me repair the Chinese codes.

Spring is arriving, and my new look and new start will be here for the Spring just in time.

What’s the Most Efficient Way to Advertise?

December 14th, 2008

Everybody knows that we’re living in an advertising age. Ads everywhere: on the TV in the movies, on the street in the elevator, on the bus in the bathroom… But the fact is, the more we learn how to advertise, the more we know how to ignore. So what is the most efficient way to advertise?

Last night I was just looking at Facebook’s advertising features and its pricing, and see how much I have in my advertising budget to spend with them, and this morning I saw this article in New York Times: Digital Domain: Advertisers Face Hurdles on Social Networking Sites

Thank God that this report came out just in time to help me avoid a mistake and save money, but I still have to search the answer to my question.

Facebook

December 6th, 2008

Finally joined Facebook this Monday, after being asked so many times “do you have Facebook?”. Another main reason for me to make myself appear on Facebook, is that I want to try its advertising feature and see if it will be effective for promoting my business.

So the entire week, I spent almost all my spare time on this social online network, which proves many people’s opinion on this thing: such a waste of time. But I was really shocked to see how many people I know are there, even my host mum in Iowa, and a good friend’s mum in Chicago are on Facebook! Besides, lots of people are connected to hundreds of people there.

So I started to feel a bit outdated, but also wondering: how people can or have time to keep up with hundreds of other people’s activities every day, every week, or every month? Or, are most of the connections pure electrical connections, meaning your picture and name can appear on my computer screen, and mine shows up on yours, and no further substance in between?

But since this Facebook is such a popular thing, I think it’s worth exploring it a bit more for marketing purpose. And it’s also nice to reconnect with some old friends there. But one thing I know for sure: real friends, it doesn’t matter whether we are connected electronically or not, because we are always connected by heart.
