Why Do Good People Always Get Hurt???

February 28th, 2008

In a really bad mood this evening.
Trying to do some work but cannot focus. Wasted almost the entire night. Life is short. I hate wasting my own precious time. But I hate even more that I am hurt, being a kind person.
So why do good people always get hurt? Is it because we are too kind and too easy to take advantage of, and we don’t even know how to be mad?
But I am mad! I am angry! I am upset! I am anguish!
Is Brendon really right: Life sucks, and then you die?

Hot Chocolate

February 23rd, 2008

“A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.
During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups – porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.

When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: ‘Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
The cup that you’re drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups… And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.

Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate God has provided us. God makes the hot chocolate, man chooses the cups. The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. And enjoy your hot chocolate!”

After reading this story, I thought of an old Chinese saying, which well summarizes the thoughts behind — 知足长乐。

I found different versions of its English translation:
Happiness lies in contentment.
Enough is as good as a feast.
A Contented Mind Is A Continual Feast.

But how can we develop a “contented mind” in a super materialistic world? Is human being greedy by nature? How much is “enough”? Don’t we always want more?

Not Trying=0. Trying=50/100. Try or not?

February 22nd, 2008

There’re a lot of very intellegent, talented and hardworking people in the world who are trying very hard throughout their life, but only very few of them can become millionaires.
Apparently, destiny is a factor in success, no matter whether you believe it or not. In other words, trying only gives you 50% of the chance of being successful.
So, Do you still want to try?

Mochaccino

February 2nd, 2008

Went to a café with a friend this afternoon.
Had a mochaccino with whipped cream and almond on top.
It’s been a long time,
drinking a cup of coffee with whipped cream,
sitting in a real café.
Almost felt like it’s the first time since I came back from Europe.
The café is called Café Vienne.
I miss the cafés in Vienna.
Sitting in Café Vienne, however,
the feelings were totally different.
The Viennese coffee eased me, but
the rich mocha awoke me.
Didn’t I need the awakeness?
After all, it’s in Montreal,
not Vienna.
